Local Scholarship Criteria

Minimum 2.5 GPA.
Senior or early graduate at Dixie County High School.
Dixie County Home School equivalent.
Graduating student with community ties to Dixie County.
Passed State/course requirements or an acceptable assessment for graduation.
Applying and will attend a University, Community College, Vocation/Technical School or a Certificate Program.
History of participating in school and community activities.
Employment history if applicable.
Community services if applicable.
Reference letter, may be required on some applications

All applications will be reviewed and the recipient(s) selected based on eligibility criteria above and additional information submitted in each application. The application should be submitted in ink or typed, organized, neatly, including detailed answers to lists or questions to the Guidance Office Staff at Dixie County High School by the proposed deadline.

Selection Process: The recipient is selected by a DEF committee or a scholarship donor.

Dixie Education Foundation Scholarships

All the Dixie Education Foundation (DEF) Scholarships are funded by local donors. From our respectful beginnings of $10,000 awarded in 1997 to nearly a quarter million annually awarded today, we are indeed humbled by all of our donors' generosity.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program establishes lottery-funded scholarships to reward Florida high school graduates for high academic achievement.

Florida offers the Florida Academic Scholarship(FAS), Florida Medallion Scholarship(FMS), Florida Gold Seal Cape Scholarship(GSC), and the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship(FGS).

Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Students need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to apply for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans. Completing and submitting the FAFSA form is free and easier than ever, and it gives you access to the largest source of aid to help you pay for college or career school.

In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid. Some private aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.

How To Claim Your Scholarships

Scholarships presented through the Dixie Education Foundation are awarded at the Scholarship Awards and College Signing Ceremony, usually the week before graduation.

AWARD LETTER

At the these ceremonies you will be presented with a letter indicating the donor and amount of each scholarship you were awarded.

CAREER PATHS

Your scholarship monies may be used at community colleges, universities, vocational centers, and for certificate programs such as Corrections Officer or Medical Technician.

THANK YOU LETTERS

Write and send a thank you letter to each donor on your awards list. Make a copy of each thank you letter to turn into the Foundation Office.

USAGE DEADLINE

The deadline to utilize the monies is February 1 of the year following your graduation.

PROOF OF ENROLLMENT INCLUDES:

– Proof of Registration or School Schedule;

AFTER DROP/ADD

After the Drop-Add period, the Foundation will fund one-half of the monies from each scholarship for each semester enrolled.

SCHOOL REGISTRATION

You must submit your school registration or schedule for each semester.

NEVER – email any document that has your Social Security Number or Driver License Number. If you have no choice, then black/white out the numbers.
